Panthers advance in dual team meet

The Miami Trace Panthers wrestling team has advanced to the Regional semifinals of the dual team tournament following a pair of wins Wednesday evening.

The event was held at the Miami Trace Middle School as the high school hosted a girls’ basketball game with Chillicothe.

The teams involved in the tournament Wednesday, in addition to Miami Trace, were the Washington Blue Lions, London, Springfield Shawnee and Kenton Ridge.

Springfield Shawnee defeated Kenton Ridge to advance to wrestle Miami Trace.

In the other half of that bracket, it was former SCOL opponent London taking on Washington.

There were two mats and the matches were wrestled simultaneously.

Miami Trace dispatched Shawnee in a rout, 75-6.

Washington edged London, 40-39.

In the match featuring the two Fayette County schools, Miami Trace defeated Washington, 43-31.

Miami Trace will next wrestle in the dual team tournament Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. with opponent and site to be determined.

First for Miami Trace, in the match against Shawnee, six of the matches went to the Panthers by forfeit.

Those forfeits went to: junior Wes Gandee at 120, junior B.J. Anders at 170, junior Jacob Tinkler at 182, senior Jared Fenner at 195, junior Dalton Bartley at 220 and junior Colin Wolffe at heavyweight.

Shawnee had one forfeit from the Panthers at 106 pounds, going to sophomore Kaleb Ream.

At 113 pounds for Miami Trace, freshman Storm Duffy pinned freshman Damian Wilson in 1:42.

At 126 pounds, Panther junior Jaymon Flaugher pinned junior Jake Griffin in 4:20.

Junior Coby Hughes (132) pinned senior Connor McCune in 1:02.

Junior Dylan Murphy pinned sophomore Nick Humphreys in 3:45.

Sophomore Bladeth Leamon pinned senior Matt Rutroff in 2:46 and senior Derek Moore picked up a pin over junior Dominic Finch in 3:51.

Sophomore James Munro won an 8-4 decision over junior Sam Matthews.

For the Blue Lions against London, Washington picked up five wins by forfeit. Those went to: junior Levi Clay at 120, senior Tre Thomas at 126, sophomore Sam Willis at 145, freshman Jaimie McCane at 220 and senior Trevor Hicks at heavyweight.

Junior Zane Nelson had a major decision 13-1 win over senior Cameron Stout at 145.

Junior Chris Conger pinned sophomore Jack Minner in 3:00.

At 132 pounds, freshman Garret Adams was pinned by London freshman Darian Huff in 2:44.

London’s Josh Colvin, a sophomore, won a 6-4 decision over freshman Josh Waters at 138.

At 170 pounds, London senior Colten Winters pinned senior Ethan Stewart in 1:53.

At 182 pounds, London senior Colin Minner pinned freshman Collier Brown in 3:33.

In the match pitting the Panthers against the Blue Lions, at 106, Storm Duffy won by forfeit.

At 113 pounds, Collin George picked up a forfeit.

At 120 pounds, Levi Clay pinned Wes Gandee in 1:47.

At 126 pounds, Tre Thomas pinned Jaymon Flauhger in :32.

At 132 pounds, Coby Hughes pinned Garret Adams in :21.

Dylan Murphy (138) pinned Josh Waters in 1:19.

At 145 pounds, Zane Nelson won a 14-5 major decision over Bladeth Leamon.

Derek Moore pinned Sam Willis at 152 pounds in :52.

Chris Conger (160) won an 8-2 decision over James Munro.

At 170 pounds, B.J. Anders decisioned Ethan Stewart, 5-4.

Jacob Tinkler at 182 pounds won a major decision over Collier Brown, 14-4.

Jared Fenner at 195 and Dalton Bartley at 220 received forfeits and at heavyweight, Trevor Hicks pinned Colin Wolffe in 5:42.
