MT 7th grade girls beat Greenfield, Chillicothe

The Miami Trace 7th grade Lady Panthers basketball team picked up a pair of victories this week, improving their record to 5-2 on the season.

On Monday, Jan. 9, Miami Trace traveled to Greenfield to take on the Lady Tigers.

Miami Trace won this game, 33-22.

Greenfield led 5-2 at the end of the first quarter.

At the half, Greenfield held a 15-13 lead.

The third quarter saw a Miami Trace turnaround, going in front, 26-16.

“We had not played since Dec. 22 and the first half was very sluggish,” Miami Trace coach Tracy Fliehman said.

Scoring for Miami Trace: Emma Pitstick, 8; Libby Alshire, 6; Mallory Pavey, 6; Sidney Payton, 5; Jarya Hassell, 4; Loreli King, 2 and Jamie Runnels, 2.

Back at home on Jan. 12, Miami Trace hosted Chillicothe and won that game, 25-13.

“We jumped out early with great defense, holding them scoreless in the first half,” Fliehman said.

At the end of the first quarter, Miami Trace led 6-0 and by the intermission, it was 13-0, Lady Panthers.

Miami Trace led 19-5 at the end of the third quarter.

A trio of players, Sidney Payton, Jarya Hassell and Libby Alshire, shared top scoring honors, each with six points.

Mallory Pavey, Sarah Duron and Jamie Runnels each had two points and Loreli King had one point.

“Both games have provided opportunities for everyone to play and numerous kids scoring opportunities,” Fliehman said. “We must improve on free throw shooting as we were a combined 1 for 16 in the two games.”

The Lady Panthers take on Wilmington Tuesday at Wilmington at 5 p.m.
