Miami Trace beats Hillsboro, 58-29

The Miami Trace Lady Panthers improved to 4-0 in the final season of the South Central Ohio League with a 58-29 win over visiting Hillsboro Saturday night.

Miami Trace spread its scoring out between 10 players, led by senior Hanna Reisinger with 11 and sophomore Cassidy Lovett with 10.

Junior Tanner Bryant was next with eight points.

Senior Samantha Ritenour led Miami Trace with eight rebounds, including five offensive.

Lovett had five rebounds, all on the offensive end.

Junior Victoria Fliehman had six rebounds and Reisinger led the team with five steals.

For Hillsboro (now 1-4 overall, 1-2 SCOL), junior Kaley Burns led with eight points.

Junior Natalie Sullivan was next with six points.

Miami Trace led 16-7 at the end of the first quarter.

At the half, the Lady Panthers were in front, 28-11.

Miami Trace extended its lead after three quarters of play to 46-19.

“I thought our girls played extremely hard,” Miami Trace head coach Ben Ackley said. “It was good to get a lot of kids minutes. We had contributions from several, which is always nice.

“I thought the big factor tonight was that we did a very good job in our full-court pressure and created a lot of turnovers,” Ackley said.

Hillsboro had 36 turnovers in the game, to nine for Miami Trace.

“We didn’t shoot the ball very well,” Ackley said. Miami Trace was 24 out of a season-high 70 attempts for 34 percent.

Hillsboro shot 12 of 29 for 41 percent.

Miami Trace made six threes to one for Hillsboro.

Both teams scored four points from the free throw line.

“With as good a job as (head coach) J.R. (Moberly) and his staff do, they’ll be a lot better the next time we play them,” Ackley said.

Elsewhere in the SCOL Saturday, McClain edged Washington, 31-28, Wilmington beat East Clinton, 49-28 and Chillicothe defeated Clinton-Massie, 62-31.

Miami Trace is at Chillicothe Wednesday and at McClain Saturday. Both nights, the action starts with the j-v game at 5:30 p.m.

Miami Trace wins j-v game against Hillsboro

In the j-v game Saturday night, Miami Trace edged Hillsboro, 29-28.

The j-v Lady Panthers are now 4-1 overall, 3-0 in the SCOL.

Hillsboro’s Karleigh Hopkins broke a 27-27 tie with a free throw with 35 seconds to play.

Miami Trace’s Becca Ratliff made a lay-up with 21 seconds to play to give Miami Trace a 29-28 lead.

Hillsboro got a shot to take the lead, but it was no good, giving Miami Trace the win.

Ratliff led Miami Trace with 12 points.

Olivia Wolffe scored nine and Tori Evans had five, including a three-point basket.

Shania Villaruel had two points and Lena Steele scored one.

For Hillsboro, Kira Watson led with nine points.

Mackenzie Cosby scored eight points, Karleigh Hopkins had five points, Josie Hopkins had four points and Kayden Watson scored two.
