Annual Health Fair is a special community event

As you may have noticed over the past week, several pages have been devoted in the Record-Herald to the 26th-annual Community Health Fair & Family Fun Day, which will be held this Saturday at Grace Community Church in Washington C.H.

Featured on these pages were scenes from past health fairs with the purpose of spotlighting the strong tradition of this special community event, as well as stories of what’s to come at this year’s edition. Our attention to this event speaks to the event’s importance to our community. When considering our community’s “can’t-miss” gatherings, this one certainly comes to mind each year.

There will be numerous attractions this year for kids, including clowns, alpacas, pony rides, YMCA challenge, bouncy house, rock wall, emergency vehicles – including the Guardian of the Ribbon pink fire truck – children’s characters and face painting. Animals from the Columbus Zoo will also be there at 1 p.m.

There are also new events for adults this year. Practical Wellness will be offering 15-minute meditation sessions at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., free of charge to participants. Health Kneads will be offering free chair massages.

Free health screenings are available and will include vision and hearing, blood pressure, foot care, body fat, scoliosis, skin screening, family dental screenings, developmental screenings for children and depression screenings. Pharmaceutical consultations will also be offered. Remember to bring a complete list of medications if anyone wishes to receive a consultation. The Good Hope Lions will be conducting vision screenings for pre-school through kindergarten ages.

Comprehensive blood draws by experienced staff are offered at an extremely reduced rate. The Red Cross will be on site conducting a blood drive.

Bone density testing will be available at no charge. Vascular screenings will be held at Fayette County Memorial Hospital on May 3, May 4, and May 5. The cost is $75 and you can schedule an appointment by calling 740-333-2945.

Finally, several local restaurants will be offering inexpensive meals for the family. The Willow will be serving homemade chicken and noodles, Donato’s pizza will be available, and Horney’s BBQ will be serving with their slow cooked meats. Breakfast items will be available in the morning for sale by Above and Beyond 4-H Club.

So come on out to the 26th-annual health fair anytime between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Saturday. There truly is something for everyone.
