Light in times of darkness

There’s no doubt about it that we live in turbulent times. The new movie “Star Wars The Force Returns” almost gives us a picture of our current world.

Just watch the evening news and you will see global chaos ranging from terrorism, nations on the edge of war, and worldwide political unrest. As Americans, these issues are no longer just third-world issues because they have reached our very own soil. As a father of three children, it definitely has my attention and desire to do something to make a difference.

We know that God has foreseen all that we are facing now, and I believe this is the time to return to the only light that can give us the strength to face the dark side ahead. This isn’t the first time that a nation has struggled with these issues.

We read in 2 Chronicles 7:14 that “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” The word of God gives us a recipe that is simple, and it’s the most wonderful time of the year to follow it. As the world sounds the trumpets of doom and despair, the church must respond with the trumpets of hope, peace on earth, and God will to men. We must be the difference we want to see in our homes, cities, nation, and world.

This Christmas season at South Side we have already started to make that difference. In spite of all the darkness in this world there is still light, there is still a savior, there is still a king. I encourage you to join us, and above all join Him to become light in these dark times. Seek peace, have hope, and above all love. May the force be with you!!
