Runners and walkers are sought for the second-annual “Light Up the Night for L.I.F.E. 5K” to benefit the LIFE Pregnancy Center of Washington Court House. Sponsored by Heritage Memorial Church, the Oct. 14 event will start at 5 p.m. that Saturday evening.

Last year’s inaugural 5K netted $2,000 for the new L.I.F.E. center as more than 100 participants raced the course. The goal this year is 150 runners with the same designation of contributions to the Pregnancy Center’s operating fund.

Runners and walkers who complete the race will receive a participant’s medal with the top three finishers in each age category receiving a winner’s medallion. The divisions are as follow:

– Children 10 and Under; Youth 11 – 18; Men 18-40; Ladies 18-40; Men 40 & Over; Ladies 40 & Over

Entry fees for adults and children over 11 years of age are $20 if pre-registered before the day of the race, or $25 at the starting line. Children from 5-10 years may participate for an entry fee of $5, and babies in strollers are free!

Enjoy the fall evening as you walk or run through the course that starts at the downtown Court House Gazebo at 5 p.m. The race then travels through the city and on the bike trail to Chrisman Park, then ends at the site of the new L.I.F.E. Pregnancy Center facility on Fayette Street in Washington C.H.

Organized and sponsored by Heritage Memorial Church, the race is for all ages and 100 percent of the entry fees go to benefit the Center and the new medical facility used by the Pregnancy Center. Additional donations are used to help fund services already offered to the local community, such as free ultrasounds and pregnancy testing; fetal development education; parenting education, abstinence education in our local schools; abortion recovery; as well as an upcoming father’s ministry.

“While donations of baby goods (diapers, clothes, etc.) are usually donated and are greatly welcomed,” said LIFE’s Director Barbara Fox, “cash donations are much appreciated for the operating fund as participation in events such as this 5K provide.”

Registration is now open and forms are available online at www.heritagewch.com/5k-registration/ or contact the Heritage Memorial Church Office at (740) 335-1079, or come by between 9 a.m.-4 p.m., weekdays at 1867 Old US 35 NW at Jamison Road.
