Flu shots available at Health Department

Well, believe it or not flu season is around the corner! It is time to start thinking about getting your flu shot.

The seasonal flu shot protects against three or four influenza viruses that research indicates will be most common during the upcoming season.

Everyone 6 months of age and older should get a flu vaccine every season. Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenza such as older adults, people with chronic health conditions and young children. Protecting yourself from flu also protects the people around you who are more vulnerable to serious flu illness.

Vaccination helps protect women during pregnancy and their babies for up to six months after they are born. Other studies have shown that vaccination reduces the risk of flu-related hospitalizations in older adults.

So if you need a flu shot, the Fayette County Health Department is having a flu clinic Sept. 21 from 4 -7 p.m. A variety of insurances can be billed or if cash, the price is $25 and the high dose for people over 65 is $45. There will be no nasal spray available this year for anyone.

If you have questions please feel free to call the health department at 740-335-5910.
