On Aug. 4 a dinner was held for the students who attended Buckeye Boys and Girls State programs in June. The event was hosted by American Legion Post 25 and Auxiliary Unit #25, with 38 people attending.

The program is open to juniors of both schools. The program is funded by donation from local individuals, businesses and the Post.

The following boys and girls were introduced, along with their families:

From Washington High School – Levi Davis, Liam Downing, Kyler Mount, Alex Patel, Griffin Shaw and Kenny Upthegrove.

From Miami Trace High School – Nick Elrich and Jared Murphy.

From Girls State – Clare Sollars and Amber Nestor.

Kyler Mount was selected counselor for next year, a very high honor.

At their sessions they learned a lot about how the government works at all levels – local, county, state and federal.

The American Legion in Ohio has been hosting Boys State programs since 1936. This year, over 1,200 boys attended the week-long session, which was held at Bowling Green State University. Next year it will be held at Miami University.

The two American Legion Posts in Fayette County sent 16 boys and the Auxiliary sent four girls.
