In only her second year of showing dogs, 10-year-old Hayleigh Bageant won the top prize at the Fayette County Junior Fair Dog Show on Monday.
After qualifying for the overall dog showman competition by winning the Junior B showmanship class and the Pre-Novice B obedience class, Hayleigh was named the 2015 Overall Dog Showman. She also won the “High In Trial, On Lead” prize.
This was an honor she did not take for granted. “I was just happy when I heard my name,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting it.”
Hayleigh, a member of the Perfect Paws 4-H club, said she spends a lot of time training her Doberman, “Levi.” She said he’s a very obedient dog and performs well in shows.
Hayleigh is the daughter of Danyel and Tim Bageant.
Also Monday, Summer Hurles, a member of Perfect Paws, continued her great success in the junior fair dog show by winning the “High In Trial, Off Lead” prize. She finished second behind Bageant in the overall dog showman category. Summer previously won the overall dog showman prize twice at the Fayette County Fair.
