The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the “suspicious death” of a man found at an apartment building in the 11000 block of State Route 38 in the small community of Yatesville, near Bloomingburg.

Deputies were dispatched Wednesday shortly before 7 p.m. following reports of a person found unresponsive at the residence, which used to be an old schoolhouse, according to Sheriff Vernon Stanforth.

Sheriff’s detectives were called to the scene, as well as members of the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation after first responders found “indicators of foul play in the death,” Stanforth said. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office and Fayette County Prosecutor Jess Weade also responded to the scene.

“Late Thursday afternoon, two suspects were taken into custody in connection with this ongoing death investigation,” said Stanforth. They are being held in a “foreign jurisdiction.”

The identity of the victim is being withheld at this time until positive identification is made and family members are notified, authorities said.

The body has been transported to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office for post-mortem examination, Stanforth said. The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has not yet ruled on the cause of death.

Stanforth said detectives and BCI&I agents are continuing their investigation. No other information is being released at this time.
