The Southern State Community College Foundation is pleased to award the 2016 Student Government Association (SGA) scholarship to Amanda Payton of Washington C.H., a second-year student at Southern State.

“I could not be more thankful to SGA for awarding me this scholarship which will help me continue to pursue my academic goals,” said Payton. “I also want to thank everyone at Southern State for the encouragement that drives me to achieve my goals.”

A member of SGA and president of Phi Theta Kappa honor society, Payton is majoring in business management at Southern State and maintains a 4.0 grade point average. She also is currently pursuing a bachelor degree in management and leadership through an SSCC partnership with Franklin University in which all classes are offered online or on the SSCC Central Campus in Hillsboro.

Based on its members’ interest in advancing student success, the Student Government Association created the scholarship as a way to award funds to second-year students in good academic standing.

SGA is a student-led leadership organization representing the student population on all campuses by pursuing social, political, academic, and administrative initiatives of interest to the Southern State student body.
