BLANCHESTER — A Hillsboro man was cited after police say he ran a stop sign and struck a man riding a bicycle in Blanchester Thursday.

Police Chief Scott Reinbolt said at around 6:15 a.m. officers were called to the corner of Columbus and Cherry streets where a bicyclist had been struck by a car.

Reinbolt said the investigation revealed that John McFaddin, 48, of Blanchester was riding his bicycle on South Columbus Street when a car driven by Shawn Wilkin, 60, of Hillsboro failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Columbus and Cherry streets, striking McFaddin.

Wilkin was cited for disregarding a traffic control device. He will answer the charge in the Clinton County Municipal Court. McFaddin was transported to Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington via Blanchester Emergency Medical Services. He was treated and released Thursday, according to the hospital.

Reinbolt said that during the investigation officers learned that a witness had captured the crash on video, and a copy of that video was taken as evidence.
