Deer Creek Daisies visit Hillsboro

Where oh where did our spring weather go? The time to plant flowers is usually around May 15. This year it has been a challenge to find the right day to shop for flowers and garden plants knowing the weather and the ground is still rather cool.

The Deer Creek Daisies set a date in mid-May to visit Hillsboro, Ohio and a few greenhouses. Little did we know the weather would be so cold, rainy and miserable on that day. However, the weather didn’t stop us. We traveled down the road and by the time we arrived the rain had stopped and the sun was trying to shine.

Our first stop was for a brief meeting. We shared information on the Fayette County Quilt show that was being held at Southern State Community College in Washington C.H. that day. The winners of the door prizes were Connie Lindsey and Joyce Schlichter.

The next stop was at a home-based greenhouse known as Bridgewood Secret Garden at 8241 State Route 73. As we pulled in the driveway we were greeted by the friendly family duck! Inside we loaded up on lots of flowers and garden plants. Even the greenhouse was chilled by the cold air from outside. But the plants were healthy and priced right. You can find them on Facebook or call Lindsey with questions at 937-205-6630.

Heading back toward Hillsboro we found our next shopping treasure, Jeff Page Greenhouse. It is located at 8230 State Route 73. This place was packed inside and out with beautiful flowers, perennials and garden plants. I suppose the cooler weather has everyone waiting to put plants in the ground. You don’t need to worry about the greenhouses running out before you have time to shop. Contact them at 937-393-4322. You won’t be disappointed with anything there! Certainly the warm weather is here to stay now. Support your local and neighboring greenhouses. Start shopping and planting!

We found a great place for lunch in downtown Hillsboro, called West Main Street Diner. The warm soup and sandwiches hit the spot after our shopping adventure. Of course we wanted to indulge in their homemade pies, too. They were delicious! Stop in and check this diner out. The folks are friendly and food is delicious!

Our last stop of the day was just a few doors from the restaurant at Cundiff’s Flowers. The silk flower arrangements and gifts were beautiful. The picture with the article was taken inside their store. The Cundiff’s own and operate this store and Cundiff’s Tree Care. They will travel to help you with pruning your trees, landscaping, fertilizing and stump removal. Their business phone is 800-993 TREE. The flower shop can be reached at 937-393-1411. They have several ladies making beautiful arrangements for weddings, funerals, celebrations and gifts.

Our day started out cool but with great friends and the love for all things blooming we had a very enjoyable time. Happy planting and happy spring to everyone!
