Scott to speak at annual luncheon

The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce has announced that Don Scott, founder of Scott Antique Market, will be the featured speaker for its June 15 annual luncheon, which will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the Mahan Building.

For nearly 20 years, Don Scott made a living buying and selling antiques. He traveled the country along with several family members, finding antiques and selling them at various antique shows. As an exhibitor, Scott wanted to start his own show with an emphasis on customer service. The Atlanta, Ga. show was successful from the beginning and quickly expanded to Columbus. Recently, the Washington Court House antique market officially opened in April.

Thirty years later, with four generations of Scotts working the show, the Scott Antique Market has grown into the world’s largest monthly indoor antique show, and is truly “America’s Favorite Treasure Hunt.” Tickets for the luncheon are $20 and may be purchased at the Chamber office or by calling 740-335-0761.

The Chamber is also taking applications for a new list of awards it will be presenting at the organization’s annual meeting. In addition to the Business Person of the Year, which has been a tradition for several years, the Chamber will also recognize the following categories – Small Business of the Year, Large Business of the Year, Quality of Life Awards and an Innovation Award.

Businesses with 50 or fewer full-time equivalent employees who have demonstrated an exceptional contribution to the community and/or its industry and have a reputation for integrity and fair business practice, are eligible for the Small Business category. The same standards apply to a large business with 50 or more employees.

The Innovation in Business Award will be given to a chamber member business that has used innovation to stand apart from its peers in product development, customer service, and/or employee relations practices. The chamber’s charitable/civic members whose work as enriched the lives of Fayette County residents are eligible for the Quality of Life Award.

Nominations are also being sought for the Business Person of the Year, awarded to either a chamber member or the employee of a chamber member who has shown an interest and involvement in the betterment of the community and who gives of their time, efforts and resources to better the Fayette County community.

“With 300 members, we have so many businesses that contribute to the community and their respective industries. This is just one way to honor multiple chamber members for their contributions,” said Chamber CEO Whitney Gentry.

Applications and a full list of criteria are available on the Chamber website at www.fayettecountyohio.com or at the Chamber office, located at 101 E. East St. in Washington C.H. Nominations are due by this Friday and for more information, contact Gentry at (740) 335-0761.
