Making ‘Great Strides’ in cystic fibrosis awareness

Final plans are underway for the sixth Washington Court House “Great Strides” event, which will be held Saturday, May 14 at McHenry Field on Circle Avenue to raise money and awareness for cystic fibrosis.

Event coordinator, Chyane Collins, said that anyone interested may register in-person starting at 9 a.m. Saturday or online (www.cff.org/greatstrides). The actual walk/run will begin at 10 a.m.

The first 100 participants will receive t-shirts thanks to area businesses and a bottle of DB Yummers BBQ sauce. There is no set registration fee, but organizers do encourage all participants to make a donation, as all proceeds benefit the Central Ohio Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The event is a rain or shine event.

Buck Caulley DJ Services will be providing the music throughout the event and participants will enjoy refreshments upon returning from their walk/run. Smokin’ Joe’s will offer its wings and Collins Septic is providing pizza and chips.

In addition to the Good Hope Lions Club’s major donation, Pettit Enterprises has also made a significant donation. Absolute Cabling Fire & Security, Pettit’s IGA Express, Rusty Keg, and Southern State Community College logos will be represented on the t-shirts, as well as these businesses/organizations: Mayer Farm Equipment, SSCC’s Respiratory Care Club, Streetside 62, and Thompson Orthodontics for their support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Anyone with questions may contact Collins at [email protected].

The Good Hope Lions Club makes a $1,000 donation for the third consecutive year. Lions member Jim Garland presents the check to Chyane Collins (Washington CH Great Strides event coordinator).
