YMCA to host ‘Color Run’ this month

The Fayette County Family YMCA will host its first Color Run/Walk on Saturday, May 21 at the city reservoir by the YMCA, sponsored by Fayette County Travel and Tourism and Sherwin Williams.

The YMCA is encouraging families and people of all fitness levels to participate by offering a family discount. With an $18 registration fee, additional family members in the same household can register for $16 each. All participants registering at the YMCA by May 7 will receive “swag,” including an event t-shirt, sunglasses, a medal, and color dust to throw. Registration information can be found at faycoymca.org or at the YMCA. Day of race registration and “swag” pickup will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the reservoir. The run will start at 10:15 a.m.

Color Runs have become popular over the last five years. Participants run or walk through colorful stations around the reservoir up to three times while colorful food-grade cornstarch transforms them into a vibrant rainbow.

Not a runner? Not a problem, this event is about having fun as participants make their way to the finish line. It is not about how fast participants can go.

The reservoir is just over one mile around on a blacktop path. Participants are encouraged to wear eye covering to keep the color out of their eyes.

All proceeds from this event will help the YMCA serve people throughout the county as part of the Strong Kids Scholarship program. These funds help subsidize youth programs and new program initiatives as well as provide membership and program assistance for individuals and families with documented inability to pay the published fees. The YMCA is a 501c3 non-profit organization serving over 6,000 people annually.
