An accident Friday in Highland County that claimed the life of a Chillicothe woman and seriously injured a Washington C.H. man is being investigated by the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

At 5:44 p.m., Kelli J. Brown, 56, Chillicothe, was driving a 1999 Ford F-150 pickup truck northwest on Martinsburg Road near the intersection of Limes Road in Madison Township, Highland County. A preliminary investigation indicates that Brown failed to negotiate a curve and drove off the right side of the roadway. She then overcorrected, the vehicle crossed the center line and was struck by a 2015 Kia Soul traveling southeast on Martinsburg Road, the state patrol said.

The Kia Soul was being operated by Herbert Everhart, 50, Washington C.H.

Brown was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Highland County Coroner’s Office, according to the state patrol.

Everhart was flown by CareFlight helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton with serious injuries, the state patrol said.

Two additional occupants, one in the Ford F-150 and one in the Kia Soul, according to the state patrol, were both transported to area hospitals for injuries.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office, Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District, MedFlight and CareFlight assisted troopers on scene.

Brown was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, and alcohol impairment is suspected to be a factor in the crash, the state patrol said.

The crash remains under investigation by the state patrol.
