Free tax appointments available at The Well

The Well at Sunnyside has begun processing federal and state income taxes, and tax appointments are available for the community.

Chiquita Nash, volunteer and free store coordinator for The Well, said Wednesday that the non-profit has processed about 90 free returns for the community. The volunteers were able to process about 975 returns last year and brought back around $1.4 million, and the goal for this season is to complete 1,000 returns or more. Appointments should be made and will take priority, but walk-ins are welcome. Times can be scheduled Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some Saturday times will be available, including a clinic on Feb. 6 with 40 appointments open.

“We are always looking for volunteers to help at The Well,” Nash said. “For most events we just need people to come and sign up, but to help with taxes, volunteers would need to complete some training. Other events are coming up as well, such as the Summer Kids Cafe. To prepare for that we are holding a few fundraisers and we would really appreciate the community’s support. This program is near and dear to my heart and I hope to be able to serve more kids this summer.”

Coming in February, The Well will be holding the Valentine Heart Sale. By donating to the organization, hearts of varying sizes will be displayed around the building at The Well with the names of donors. For $1 a small heart will be placed, for $5 an even larger heart will be displayed and for $10 a large heart to be filled with the names of the family of the donor will be shown to the public.

“We always want to thank the community for their continued support that they have given The Well,” Nash said. “I really feel that the community is not just a supporter, but a partner. I always hope that by helping and blessing others, they will feel blessed themselves.”

Another event coming up will be a collaboration between The Well and The Warehouse, a non-profit aimed at helping youth. The two groups will be holding a baked ziti dinner on March 26 to raise funds. Both organizations will benefit from the dinner and it will help them to continue offering their programs.
