A Washington C.H. sex offender has been arrested and charged for allegedly failing to register a change of address as required by law.

According to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, deputies were performing address verifications and discovered that a registered sex offender, Kody L. Newton, 20, of 710 Linden Ave., was not living at the Linden Avenue home as previously registered. It was also discovered that Newton was allegedly no longer working at his reported place of employment as of December 2015.

A warrant was issued through the Washington C.H. Municipal Court for the arrest of Newton on the charge of failure to register a change of address, a felony of the fourth degree.

Deputies continued to try to locate Newton, who was found Tuesday and arrested by deputies at a home in the 700 block of Eastern Avenue in Washington C.H. and was taken into custody without incident. Newton was transported to the Fayette County Jail where he was incarcerated in lieu of bond pending his appearance before the Washington C.H. Municipal Court.

“Address verification checks are performed by deputies unannounced and at periodic intervals to ensure compliance with the sex offender registry laws,” said Stanforth. “The deputies have done a fantastic job ensuring that offenders that are required to register are in compliance with the self-reported address and employment information they provide to the Sex Offender Unit during the registration process. Those offenders found not in compliance are prosecuted according to law.”
