International speaker Rick Wormeli presents to an audience of area educators.

Hillsboro—Over 200 educators from Adams, Brown, Clinton, Fayette, and Highland counties were in attendance to hear international speaker and award winning teacher and author Rick Wormeli share his experience with “Differentiated Instruction: Walking Through a Lesson from Scratch” June 12 at the Gathering Place in Hillsboro.

The event, hosted by the Southern Ohio Educational Service Center, was the capstone to a week-long series of workshops offering teachers and administrators continuing education opportunities.

After a brief review of major differentiation principals, Wormeli demonstrated a step-by-step process of creating differentiated lesson plans from scratch that will empower teachers to explore ways to meet the diverse needs of student instruction while utilizing Ohio’s Teacher Standards and the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System framework.

As teachers continue to work through the summer months preparing for the start of the 2015-2016 school year, they are more equipped to “teach smarter, not harder,” having benefited from the techniques shared by Wormeli.
