At a recent Fayette County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DD) meeting, David Sanders was welcomed as the newest board member and Mark Schwartz was recognized for accepting the position of executive director of Fayette Progressive Industries.

Sanders was sworn in by Fayette County Probate Court Judge David Bender at the Jan. 13 board meeting. Sanders is replacing Mitchell Kirby, whose term on the board concluded at the end of 2015.

The remaining board members include Suzie McCracken, Larry Mayer, Cody Kirkpatrick, Janelle Mead, Caryl Bookman and Mark Heiny.

Schwartz has 20 years of county board work with the most recent being the Adult Services Director for the Fayette County Board of DD. In this capacity, Schwartz has overseen Fayette Progressive Industries (FPI) as well as all other adult employment endeavors supported by the Fayette County Board of DD.

With the growth of the not-for-profit, the FPI board made the decision to hire an executive director who will be able to devote their full attention to future growth. Superintendent Deb Buccilla said she is excited for this move and is looking forward to watching Schwartz lead FPI into the future.

“The field of developmental disabilities is constantly moving forward and changing,” said Buccilla. “Thank you to Mark for his past employment with FCBDD, and to David and the other board members for their service to the agency, and for their role in meeting the vision of the Fayette County Board of DD – to empower people to be the best version of themselves.”
