The local Washington Elks Lodge #129 recently awarded their Most Valuable Student scholarships to area students. The winners are Liam Downing, Clare Sollars, Blake Pittser and MaCrae Conrad.

Since 1931, the Elks National Foundation has helped thousands of students who need financial assistance fulfill their dreams of attending college. Most Valuable Student scholars are outstanding students who are at or near the top of their classes, active in their schools and communities, and recognized as leaders by their peers.

The ENF awards $2.44 million annually in MVS scholarships to 500 high school seniors nationwide. The first- and second-place awards are among the largest scholarships provided by any major fraternal or service organization. The 2018 Most Valuable Student scholarship contest is open to any high school senior who is a US citizen. Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership and financial need. Applications for the 2018 contest are available now. The 2018 MVS application deadline is Nov. 27.

Another scholarship available through the Elks organization are Legacy Awards. Legacy Awards are $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of Elks members. The Foundation will offer a total of 300 awards in the 2018 contest. The 2018 contest is also open now. The deadline for applications for the 2018 contest will be Feb. 2, 2018 at 11:59 a.m. Central Time.
