The guest speaker at the June 1 meeting of the Fayette County Retired Teachers Association was Ken Moody, who is the District VI co-director for the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.

Moody emphasized the important job ORTA has acting as a safeguard of the teachers’ retirement system. He announced that the ORTA newsletter is now delivered by email, but if members do not have computer access, they can receive the letter through the mail. He also mentioned that ORTA will be doing away with the current district system of organization and switching to regions which will create more representatives.

The annual memorial service was conducted recognizing members and friends of FCRTA who have passed away during the last year. Those recognized were Gordon Davis, Harold Gass and Doris Lutz.

Members are reminded that we will be collecting donations of school supplies at the August meeting and toy donations at the December gathering.

Membership booklets were distributed and members with picnic pals were reminded to contact their new retiree prior to the August meeting.

Mary Beth Jenkins was announced as our scholarship recipient for 2017. She will be attending Grace College in Indiana and majoring in early childhood education. Best wishes to Mary Beth.

The next meeting will be our annual picnic to be held on Aug. 3 at Grace United Methodist Church. Social hour will begin at 4 p.m. with the meal following at 5 p.m.
