The Dominican Republic is best known as the home of great baseball players and more recently great resorts. It shares the island with Haiti, but is drastically different in many ways.
In the DR, as they call it, they speak Spanish instead of Creole French. The standard of living is much higher than Haiti. The country is seeing a surge in economics as they overcome corruption. The impetus to overcome corruption has its roots in a surge of Christianity laying a foundation of honest ethics.
Scott and Emily Armstrong will speak about the culture and changes in the DR Wednesday, July 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Nazarene church in Washington Court House, 990 Highland Ave. They are missionaries with the Church of the Nazarene. The service will be bilingual if needed. Childcare provided. There will also be a soccer workshop for kids under age 12 at 5:30 lead by Elijah Armstrong.

“La República Dominicana es más conocida como la casa de los grandes jugadores de béisbol y más recientemente grandes centros turísticos. Comparte la isla con Haití, pero es drásticamente diferente en muchos sentidos. En Dominicana, como lo designan los locales, se habla español en lugar de criollo francés. El nivel de vida es mucho más alto que Haití. El país está viendo un aumento en la economía a medida que superan la corrupción.
