A former office manager admitted to stealing more than $150,000 from ABC Pediatrics in Washington Court House.

Angela R. Johnson admitted June 19 to taking money from the business as far back as 2012, according to court documents, and plead guilty to aggravated theft, a third-degree felony, in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas.

Johnson, 41, worked at ABC Pediatrics, 616 Willard St., for 10 years. After taking extended time off from work in 2015, a doctor who began to pay the office bills reported there were discrepancies in the bookkeeping accounts and contacted an accountant.

Johnson wrote checks to herself and then cashed the checks for cash at Columbus-area banks, records state. According to the Nov. 4 indictment handed down by a Fayette County grand jury, the theft is in excess of $150,000 but not more than $750,000.

According to reports filed with the Washington Court House Police Department, the doctor reported that Johnson made credit card charges that were extreme and totaled up to an unauthorized amount of $140,803.81 as of October 2015.

The doctor wrote of initially discovering atypical charges to the account including purchases made at Target ($401.64), Meijer ($540.04) and Walgreens ($109.79). Johnson later told the doctor these purchases were for office supplies but was unable to provide receipts or documentation, according to reports.

Additional transactions were reportedly discovered for purchases made at Kroger, Giant Eagle and Amazon. According to the Amazon report, Johnson used the ABC Pediatrics address in billing for making consumer product purchases for items such as a pair of gold glitter shoes, a rabbit hutch, a “proud mom” t-shirt, collegiate jewelry, poker chips and poker game accessories, a bedding set, and other miscellaneous consumer items.

Johnson is scheduled for sentencing at 1 p.m. Aug. 7.
