NEWS FLASH! The first locally-grown peaches will be at the Fayette County Farmers’ Market this Saturday.
George Hermes, the “Peach Man,” an Ohio professional peach grower, will be bringing an assortment of his Ohio-grown peaches and nectarines, which are just now ripening. George promises this is only the beginning of the harvest of his assorted varieties. Come to the market to examine the offerings, including white peaches.
In addition to stone fruit, a special children’s event is being planned. Make sure to visit the information booth/children’s tent to make an edible bird feeder, which can be taken home and hung to attract and feed the wild birds in the neighborhood.
The produce season is in full swing and it is worth a walk through the market just to marvel at the colors and beauty of the produce displays.
The market is open every Saturday morning from 8:30 to noon and is located in the municipal parking lot on the corner of South Main and East East streets. SNAP EBT food benefit cards, Senior Farm Market coupons and credit/debit cards are accepted—stop by the Jones Farm Fresh Produce for assistance. Those using the SNAP EBT card receive matching dollar VeggieSNAP tokens, $1 for $1 up to $10 EVERY market day! These VeggieSNAP tokens may then be used to purchase fresh produce.
The following list contains the names and products of the vendors that expect to set up for the Saturday Market. Other vendors may participate as well.
DeBruin Family Dairy (Grant and Toni DeBruin): Gourds, fresh herbs, organic butter, wildflower cards, chocolate chip cookies, seasonal produce.
Engedi (Beth Day, Alana Walters, Janet Bick): Assorted home baked goods (cinnamon rolls, bread, yeast rolls, cookies, pies, brownies, cobblers, whoopie pies,small specialty bread), Icees, chemical free soap, and a children’s activity.
Greens & Greenery (Katrina Bush): Sustainably grown produce: fresh garlic and garlic braids, kale, beets, green beans, cucumbers, summer squash, Egyptian walking onion sets. Variety of plants. Peanut Butter & Honey cookies and walnut/honey pastry (baklava). Growing Local Food, by Mary Lou Shaw.
Jones Farm Fresh Produce (Jon & Taylor Jones): Green beans, red potatoes, candy onions, sweet corn, zucchini, yellow squash, cucumbers, cabbage, bell peppers, tomatoes, beets, sweet Italian sausage links, sausage patties, ground pork, chicken breast, wings and eggs.
Keypoint Farm (Nevin Stauffer & family): Seasonal produce including cabbage, red and green tomatoes, green beans, green peppers, cucumbers, green and candy onions, peaches.
King Farms (Jeff and Sandi King): Broccoli, Yukon and red potatoes, onions, lettuce and spinach. Homemade sugar cookies, chocolate chip cookies and homemade fruit pies.
Persinger Produce and Cottage Foods (David Persinger and Julie Mosny): Pies, cinni mini’s pecan sticky buns, cinnamon rolls and local raw honey.
This and That (Mary Ford): J&P candles and tarts, garden and home crafts (goose dresses, coasters, mug rugs, aprons, OSU items, jewelry), baked goods (apple butter bread, PB fudge).
Wood by DW (Debbie Welch): Wood primitives and sewn kitchen crafts.
B.Y.E Gardens (Brian & Elaine Yoder): Seasonal produce, baked goods, homegrown popcorn and cold drinks.

Dale’s Crafts (Dale Butler): rustic benches, red, white, & blue benches, swinging chair, Uncle Sam, serving trays, outdoor games (washer toss, corn hole bags and boards, yard Yahtzee), Adirondack chair.
