A 34-year-old Jamison Road resident was sentenced Monday to serve 11 months in prison after he stole narcotic medication out of someone’s house while he was there using the restroom.

Jon Robert Stroup, 34, admitted to stealing the medication when he plead guilty to receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony, in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas.

Officers from the Washington Court House Police Department were called March 18 to the Blue Stone Inn at 1809 Columbus Ave. Reports said there was a fight in room 203. One of the people involved in the fight was identified as Stroup, and police were told that he left the inn on foot and walked toward the nearby Dollar General store.

A police officer caught up with Stroup at the store. Reports said the officer saw Stroup pull something out of his pocket and throw it behind some store merchandise on a shelf. The officer asked Stroup what he took out of his pocket and threw onto the shelf but Stroup reportedly said, “Nothing.”

Upon checking the shelf the officer located an Ohio Direction Card, reports said. The card was issued to another person and Stroup was arrested for illegal possession of a food stamp card. During a search, Stroup was found to be in possession of 30 Suboxone sublingual films (Suboxone films or “strips” are a narcotic prescription medication). He was charged with drug possession and booked into the Fayette County Jail.

Later that same day, another person called the police department and reported Stroup had stolen their Suboxone medication just prior to the incident at the inn. The victim reported that Stroup used the restroom in their home and then ran out of the house with the medication and down the street. Stroup was charged with receiving stolen property.

In court Monday, Stroup was also ordered to pay $856.60 in court costs for prosecution in the case.

His 11-month sentence was credited with 66 days of local time served on the charge.

Following sentencing Monday, Stroup was conveyed to the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio.
