Bronco Charlie Mills was only 11 when he was hired by the Pony Express to deliver the mail. So, that being said, participants then searched for items in different parts of the library and then took turns relaying the items to their captain. The teams who finished first won a yummy prize. Those who learned lots about the Pony Express and the library were Nate, Kathy, Holly, Lilly, Candie, William and Kyler.

Jeffersonville Branch Library recently held the Pony Express Relay and Scavenger Hunt. Participants learned lots about the Pony Express that began in 1860 and at that time was known as “The Greatest Enterprise of Modern Times,” how young men on fast horses relayed mail between St. Joseph, Missouri and the rapidly growing towns of Sacramento and San Francisco, California – a distance of 1,966 miles and how riders would ride into a relay station and another rider would be ready to ride out.
