A Washington C.H. man was charged with illegal manufacturing of methamphetamines within the vicinity of children early Tuesday after police searched his home.

Mark Anthony Howard, 48, was charged with the first-degree felony and is being held in the Fayette County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

At just after midnight on Tuesday, Washington Police Department officers responded to 408 S. Main St. on a call of possible drug activity occurring at the residence, according to reports. Officers reportedly made contact with the resident, identified as Howard, who told police they could “come in and check.”

One officer requested that everyone inside the home come downstairs. A warrant check of one of the other men in the residence showed he had a bench warrant for his arrest and he was placed into custody, reports said.

Police reportedly received permission from Howard to search the basement and the upstairs of the residence. An officer entered Howard’s bedroom and found a bottle believed to be used for the production of meth in “plain sight,” reports said. Several syringes and components of meth production were also allegedly found in the area near the bed.

Police secured the residence and contacted another officer to clear the suspected meth lab. The Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation was also contacted to help clear the lab. A BCI&I agent reportedly located three more bottles that had been used to produce meth in different stages of production.

Howard lives in a double housing unit and the other half of the residence is occupied by three juveniles and their parents. He was arrested and transported to the jail.
