Leak in Jeffersonville pool delays opening

The Jeffersonville Community Pool recently announced a delay in opening for the season due to a major leak in the pool.

According to acting manager Daphne Depugh, the pool was scheduled to open Friday, May 26, just before Memorial Day. The employees had worked to ensure they were ready for the pre-season inspection, including fixing a smaller leak that had occurred just before opening day. Depugh said that as they were turning on the circulation system, the pressure line that runs the perimeter of the pool sprung a leak.

“We were slated to open May 26 and had our inspection set for that Monday, and we ended up springing that leak over the weekend,” Depugh said. “They had already turned on the systems prior to that though and everything was good, water was good, and we were all ready. We were losing 20,000 gallons a day, so it was a substantial leak. If it was smaller we would’ve found time to fix it throughout the season, but unfortunately we needed to fix it to get it going at all. When they find the leak it is pretty quick to fix.”

The price for admission is $4 per day or $2 after 5 p.m. The pool will be open all week long from Monday though Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. and from 1 to 7 p.m. on Sundays. Besides the pool, kiddie pool, slides and other outdoor fun, the pool will also still have food available within the concession building and fun games for the kids to play as they enjoy their summer.

“We should be done, as long as they find it, and have the pool operational within the next week or so,” Depugh said. “We have someone looking for it tomorrow and we have a specialist coming in on Monday. We should be operational in less time than that hopefully. Hopefully within just a few days.”

Depugh said that by joining the Facebook page, residents can keep up with the progress of the pool as repairs are being completed. They will announce on the “Jeffersonville Swimming Pool” page when the repairs are completed and the pool will be opened.
