The following felony cases for theft, receiving stolen property and burglary were on the court’s docket Monday in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas:
— Thomas A. Bush, Jr. was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to receiving stolen property, a fifth degree felony. The 50-year-old Washington Court House resident admitted to pawning a television and two laptops in 2015 to Cashland that he had loaned from Rent-to-Own.
Bush received a sentence of one year of community control subject to the supervision and control of the Fayette County Adult Probation Department. The prison term for violating the order is one year in the appropriate correctional institution.
Bush was ordered to pay the costs for prosecution for which judgment and execution were awarded. According to the Fayette County Clerk of Courts, costs were $508 as of May 9.
— Spencer S. Grooms was scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Monday but that hearing was continued until July 10 at the request of Grooms’s attorney.
Grooms, a 23-year-old from Mowrystown, has been arraigned on a charge of burglary, a felony of the third degree, and theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree.
A man walking his dog along Courtney Drive on the morning of Feb. 20, 2016 reported that a house looked like it had been broken into. The Washington Court House Police Department responded to the incident and reported that windows in the house were broken. Upon checking in the house, the officers reported drawers and safes were open and televisions were missing. Grooms was interviewed by police and allegedly gave authorities information about the burglary.
— Tabitha R. Boyd from Newark was arraigned recently on charges of theft of checks, a fifth degree felony, and forgery, a fifth degree felony.
According to the incident reports, Boyd allegedly took a check from someone she was temporarily living with while waiting to get into a treatment facility. Boyd allegedly then had someone else cash the check and received the money from the check in the amount of $150.
Boyd’s next appearance in court June 5 will be for a formal pretrial conference.
— Ladonna C. Labree appeared in court Monday on a charge of theft by deception, a fifth degree felony.
The 30-year-old Washington Court House resident allegedly did not report to the Fayette County Department of Job and Family Services that her employment had ended and allegedly continued to use child care services even though she was not employed.
According to the child care department, Labree allegedly owes the agency $2,047.91 for the child care provided for two children between June 12, 2016 and August 27, 2016.
The case pends jury trial May 18 at 8 a.m.
— Jason D. Gordon, 37, is charged with receiving stolen property, a fifth degree felony.
According to reports, several 911 calls were made Aug. 8, 2016 about a truck dragging a black dump trailer down South Fayette Street. Officers with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office followed the drag marks to a property at 1743 S. Fayette St. The trailer was identified as allegedly stolen but was locked behind a gate. A search warrant was obtained for the property, as well as for the home of the property owner.
According to reports, several stolen items were allegedly recovered at the properties, including one trailer reportedly stolen from the City of Portsmouth Municipal Court, one trailer reportedly stolen in 2010 from the City of Washington Court House, a U-HAUL trailer, and a four-wheeler.
Gordon was allegedly seen on video as the driver of the truck dragging the trailer down South Fayette Street to the property.
A formal pretrial conference is scheduled for June 19 at 9:30 a.m.
