Wilkin sworn in as Southern State trustee

At the May 5 meeting of the Southern State Community College Board of Trustees, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky A. Coss presided over the swearing in of Kristy S. Wilkin who was appointed by Gov. Kasich for a term through May 11, 2022.

“I am honored to have been appointed as a member of the board of trustees for Southern State,” said Wilkin. “Southern State has been a vital part of our community and has provided so many students with excellent opportunities to further their education.

“I look forward to furthering the college’s mission to provide accessible, affordable, high quality education to people in southern Ohio.”

Born and raised in Hillsboro, Wilkin earned her B.S.B.A. in accounting from Xavier University, and her Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University’s Pettit School of Law. She works as an attorney with Peele Law Offices, specializing in family law, estate planning, juvenile law, real estate, business transactions, and probate.

Wilkin is a member of the Highland County Bar Association, the Clinton County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the Hillsboro Junior Women’s Club. She also serves as a board member for the Highland County Chamber of Commerce.

She and her husband Shane also own and operate a small family carry-out known as Larry’s Party Shop. They reside on a small farm with their two daughters.

The remaining trustee positions are filled by Mike Pell of Adams County (chair), Brian De Bruin of Fayette County (vice chair), Doug Boedeker of Fayette County, Paul Hall of Brown County, Brian Prickett of Clinton County, Kyle Rudduck of Clinton County, and Lynn Stevens of Highland County. One trustee position awaits appointment.

Chosen by Ohio’s governors, the nine trustees who comprise the SSCC Board of Trustees provide direction and leadership, which allows the college to focus on fulfilling the mission of providing accessible, affordable and high-quality education.
