Mariah Carter, president of the Packrat Crafters 4-H Club, called the fifth meeting to order at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 23 at the 4-H Extension Office.
Safety officer, Maddie Frye, led the pledges and called roll asking each member to name a safety tip to follow. The minutes were then read by Makayla Gilmore and the treasurer’s report was given by Ashlynn Thevenot.
During the business meeting, members discussed 4-H Camp, doing demonstrations and having a guest speaker at the next meeting on May 14. Before adjourning the meeting, door prizes were won by Maddie Frye, Maggie Gilmore, Kendall Dye, Ashlynn Thevenot, Emilee Wilson and Morgan Reeves.
A graduation party was then held to honor Makayla Gilmore, a member of the 2015 graduating class of Washington High School. The daughter of Michael and Kim Gilmore, Makayla is a 10 year member of 4-H who began as a Clover Bud and then became a member of the Packrat Crafters. Makayla will be attending Wright State in the fall.
Makayla has held several offices within the club and is currently serving as secretary. She has participated in numerous community service projects which have included making lap blankets for nursing home residents and Hospice patients, hugs for U.S. soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and donating items to the Fayette County Food Pantry. Makayla has enjoyed taking nutrition projects in 4-H and is currently taking a scrapbooking project.
A cake decorated for the occasion and punch were served to members and guests as the honored graduate opened her cards and gifts and shared her 4-H memories with those present.
