A Jeffersonville drug trafficker sentenced April 4 to prison will pay a $15,000 fine with a $17,005 cash forfeiture to the City of Washington Court House.

After pleading down her list of 36 indictment charges, of which she plead guilty to nine, Regina O’Conner agreed to serve four years and nine months at the Ohio Reformatory for Women.

The 31-year-old was stopped by loss prevention at Kroger, 548 Clinton Ave., Washington C.H., July 19 for shoplifting with her 5-year-old daughter. According to the complaint, O’Conner went through the store’s self-checkout without paying for $200 in store items and attempted to leave when she was detained by loss prevention.

She was arrested for theft by the Washington C.H. Police Department and searched. O’Conner was found to be possession of oxycodone pills that were wrapped inside of cellophane baggies. A family member arrived to pick-up O’Conner’s 5-year-old child.

O’Conner was asked by the police if there was anything inside of her vehicle parked in the Kroger parking lot. She said there was not and gave permission for the officer to search the car after he said he was calling in a K-9 unit to the scene. Cocaine, crystal meth, digital scales, multiple bottles of prescription medication, and jars of marijuana with $17,005 in cash were located throughout the vehicle. O’Conner’s vehicle was towed and she was transported to the Fayette County Jail.

O’Conner appeared April 4 in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas to plead guilty to trafficking in marijuana, a third degree felony, and two counts of aggravated possession of drugs, third degree felonies. She was sentenced to three years in prison on those three charges.

She received a one year prison sentence for pleading guilty to three charges of aggravated possession of drugs, fifth degree felonies. For pleading guilty to possession of cocaine, a fifth degree felony, and two charges of aggravated possession of drugs, fifth degree felonies, she was ordered to serve nine months in prison, bringing the total determinate sentence to four years and nine months.

O’Conner also plead guilty to child endangering, a first degree misdemeanor, and was ordered to serve 180 days in the Fayette County Jail to be subsumed into all other counts.

The sum of $17,005 located in the search was forfeitured to the City of Washington C.H. That amount will be reduced by court costs for prosecution and fines. O’Conner was fined $15,000. The sentencing order directs the Fayette County Clerk of Courts to bill the City of Washington Court House for the court costs and fines in the case and the city will pay those court costs and fines. The balance remaining after the payment of court costs and fines will remain forfeited to the city.

Following her sentencing hearing, O’Conner was transported to the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville. She was credited with five days for time already served in the Fayette County Jail on the charges.
