Authorities are searching for a Washington C.H. man who is a suspect in a shooting that occurred Wednesday evening at the Summer Tree Apartment complex in Jeffersonville.

At 6:02 p.m., it was reported that a Dayton man, William N. Prigmore, 34, suffered a gunshot wound to the hand, according to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth. David A. DeJarnette Jr., 28, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting.

According to reports, the 911 call was made by a resident in an adjacent apartment who said he heard gunshots from an upstairs apartment. Within a minute of the original call, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office communications center received a second 911 call from Prigmore, who said he had been shot and was driving himself to Fayette County Memorial Hospital.

Personnel from the Fayette County EMS responded to State Route 41 North and found Prigmore driving in the area of the Miami Trace Local Schools. They stopped his vehicle and transported him by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of his non-life threatening injury, Stanforth said.

Detectives went to the Summer Tree Apartment complex, 71 N. Main St., for a crime scene investigation and evidence collection. After DeJarnette was identified as the suspect, detectives served a search warrant at Ashley Martin’s residence, where the shooting took place. Detectives collected evidence believed to be connected to the shooting.

“A second search warrant was obtained after detectives observed drug paraphernalia inside the Martin home,” said Stanforth. “Additional evidence connected to the drug-related search warrant was also recovered by detectives.”

As of this morning, DeJarnette remains at large. An arrest warrant has been filed in the Washington C.H. Municipal Court charging him with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. The case will be forwarded to Fayette County Prosecutor Jess Weade once the investigation is complete with additional charges likely, Stanforth said.

DeJarnette is a black male, approximately 6 feet tall and 170 pounds. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of DeJarnette is encouraged to contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 740-335-6170.
