A 33-year-old woman who hid hypodermic needles in an exhaust pipe during a traffic stop was sentenced Monday to nine months in prison.

Tiffany D. Kingery, 33, appeared in the Fayette County Court of Common Pleas on charges of tampering with evidence and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia after an indictment was handed down by a grand jury Sept. 23.

A Washington Court House resident called police Aug. 28 to report that there was possible drug activity in front of their house in the area of Delaware Street and Paint Street. The resident said it was the third time that day.

Kingery was a backseat passenger in a black Ford Explorer that was searched by the Washington Court House Police Department. The K-9 Edo indicated on the Ford Explorer and police executed a search, finding one hypodermic needle inside Kingery’s purse inside the vehicle, according to court records.

An officer instructed Kingery to have a seat on the curb while the officers searched the vehicle. An officer reported that he saw Kingery place something underneath the vehicle and when he asked her what she placed underneath the vehicle, she reportedly said nothing. Another officer looked underneath the vehicle and saw nothing underneath the vehicle but then located two hypodermic needles inside the exhaust pipe.

According to sentencing records Monday, Kingery received nine months on the tampering with evidence charge and 30 days on the illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, to run consecutively with one another. Kingery received a six-month driver’s license suspension. She was credited with 29 days of local jail time credit and transferred to the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, Ohio.
