Couple sentenced for heroin trafficking

A husband and wife investigated in Washington Court House for trafficking in heroin were sentenced to prison following a slew of charges handed down by Fayette County grand juries.

Michelle L. Self, 26, and Chad E. Self, 44, were each sentenced to prison on multiple charges of trafficking in heroin after an investigation and search warrant was executed.

On March 4, a member of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was working undercover in Washington Court House with a confidential informant to purchase $100 worth of heroin.

The confidential informant made contact with Michelle and Chad Self. According to the sheriff’s report, the confidential informant was able to purchase the heroin from the residence of Michelle and Chad Self and reported that there were children inside the home at the time. The purchased heroin was sent to Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification for testing and was found to be heroin in the amount of .77 grams.

On April 13, deputies from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Michelle and Chad’s residence at 2414 Bogus Rd., Lot 6, Union Township.

Upon entering the residence, deputies located Michelle in the kitchen area. Her husband, Chad, was located in the living room area with Robert Slager, according to reports.

Photographs and video were taken of the residence, in the state that it was in when deputies arrives, according to the report. A clear plastic bag with an off-white powder, a digital scale with a powder residue, a smaller clear plastic bag with an off-white powder, and a plastic card with powder residue on it were located on the kitchen counter.

Upon being put into the Fayette County Jail van, Michelle disclosed that she had hidden a clear plastic bag in her mouth because she was scared and said the bag contained cocaine, reports said. During a body search, $100 was located on Chad and a spoon with burn marks was located on Robert Slager. A hypodermic needle and other paraphernalia were located inside the residence. There were no children reported to be inside the residence at the time the search was executed.

Michelle and Chad were indicted June 3 on multiple charges. Chad was indicted on charges of trafficking in heroin, a fourth-degree felony, possession of heroin, a fourth-degree felony, possessing drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor, and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

Michelle was indicted on charges of trafficking in heroin, a fourth-degree felony, possession of heroin, a fourth-degree felony, possession of cocaine, a fifth-degree felony, tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, permitting drug abuse, a fifth-degree felony, possessing drug abuse instruments, a second-degree misdemeanor, and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

Chad and Michelle were indicted again Aug. 5 on seven counts each for trafficking in heroin.

Michelle Self plead guilty Oct. 26 on the seven-count indictment of trafficking in heroin and was sentenced to one year in prison. She additionally plead guilty to the charges handed down in the other indictment for tampering with evidence, trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, permitting drug abuse, possessing drug abuse instruments and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, and was sentenced to a year and a half in prison.

In total on the two indictments, Michelle was ordered to serve two-and-a-half years in prison.

Chad Self plead guilty Aug. 5 to the indictment charging seven counts of trafficking in heroin and was sentenced to two years in prison. On the indictment for trafficking in heroin, possession of heroin, possessing drug abuse instruments, and illegal possession of drug paraphernalia, he plead guilty to the first count of trafficking in heroin and was sentenced Monday, Nov. 21 to one-and-a-half years in prison. The other charges for that indictment were dismissed by the state.

In total on the two indictments, Chad was ordered to serve three-and-a-half years in prison. He was credited with 27 days jail time credit for time served in the Fayette County Jail.
