Deer Creek Daisies visit ‘The Fall Festival of Leaves’

As the leaves start to turn and the days and nights get cooler, remember to take a moment to enjoy the view.

On a beautiful, crisp fall day the Deer Creek Daisies did just that. We traveled through the colorful countryside on our trip to Southern Ohio to visit The Fall Festival of Leaves in Bainbridge. The area was once home of the Mound Builders and other Indian tribes. It was also known as the “Valley of the Kings.” The festival first began on Oct. 17, 1968 and has become a very popular event with people attending from all over Ohio and surrounding states.

We began our day by visiting The Lloyd Co. Furniture store at 113 Main St. This is much more than a furniture store. They have everything from furniture, curtains, holiday décor, gift items, and much more. This store has been in existence for decades. There was plenty more shopping awaiting us outside, from crafts, many unique one-of-a kind items, clothing and a little bit of everything. Lots of food vendors and even carnival rides were on hand to entice the crowds.

After shopping our hearts out we traveled a short distance out of town to find a wonderful Amish bakery, Country Crust Bakery on 4918 SR 41 South, where we all enjoyed lunch outside on their picnic tables. Lots of goodies were purchased and carried home to enjoy. Some goodies may not have made it all the way home!

Then onto JR’s General Store, 4715 SR 42 South, for more shopping. This store carries groceries, Amish- made furniture, pictures, Amish clothing, household items, lawn furniture, rocking chairs, mums, pumpkins and more. Great place to spend an hour or so shopping.

We drove past the Amish Auction House where they sell farm produce, flowers, fresh eggs, and so much more. You can check this out on Facebook – Bainbridge Produce Auction. The auctions are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday during growing season, including fall. Also a few Saturday auctions are held there.

We found lots of local Amish friends out enjoying the day on their bicycles and their horse-drawn buggies. It was very refreshing to get a glimpse of their simpler lifestyles.

So before the leaves are gone and the snow flies, take a drive and enjoy the view. The festival is gone for another year but the Amish stores would be more than happy to make you a fresh sandwich or homemade pretzel and a fresh homemade donut. You won’t be disappointed!! Happy Fall Everyone!!
