MT FFA to ‘Paint the Town Pink’

According to the Ohio Community Health Profile (2008), cancer is the second leading cause of death in Fayette County. Throughout the month of October, the Miami Trace FFA will be doing its part to bring awareness to breast cancer by holding the sixth-annual “Paint the Town Pink” campaign.

Originally led by Rachel Shepard, a Miami Trace student, Paint the Town Pink is a special event that will be taking place throughout Washington Court House and surrounding communities.

During the campaign, the Miami Trace FFA will raise funds to support the Fayette County Memorial Hospital Partners in Pink Mammography program through a variety of activities. Local businesses have come together to contribute funds to this cause and will be displaying a pink ribbon in their business windows throughout the month.

These businesses include: Deskins Concrete, Trends, Qualitee Design, JD Equipment, Sollars Farm, Downtown Photography, Fayette Veterinary Hospital, Cargill, Beck’s, Midland Acres, Merchants National Bank, Herron Financial, Gusweiler, Fayette Pharmacy, Rusty Keg Tavern, St. Catherine’s Manor, Thompson Orthodontics, Fayette County Memorial Hospital, Rockhold Farms, Buckeye Propane, Inc., Robin’s Nest, Kirkpatrick Funeral Home, Kirk’s Furniture, McClish’s Plants Plus, Mayer Farm Equipment, Streetside 62, Willis Agency-Coleman Insurance, Weade Realtors & Auctioneers, Baxla Tractor Sales, Mossbarger & Smithson, Advantage Physical Therapy, The Gathering Place, Pettit Enterprises, Southern State Community College and Ohio Tent Rental.

Secondly, the Miami Trace FFA is selling Paint the Town Pink t-shirts where 100 percent of the money is donated. Next, FFA members will be painting small pink ribbons on car windows in exchange for small monetary donations at the home Miami Trace football game on Oct. 7.

Lastly, in cooperation with the FCMH Women’s Wellness Center, the FFA will be holding the “Paint the Town Pink” Cancer Walk on Oct. 15 at 9:30 a.m. starting at the FCMH Medical Arts Building 2. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. There is no fee to participate, however, Paint the Town Pink t-shirts will be available to purchase for $10. The walk will be held to remember the ones in our community who had cancer, are currently battling it, and also to be thankful for the survivors.

The Miami Trace FFA chapter, a satellite program of Great Oaks Career Center, would like to thank the community in advance for supporting such a worthy cause and helping to bring awareness to this issue in our local community.
