Patrol commander arrested for domestic violence

The commander of the Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was arrested Friday on charges of domestic violence, according to the Wilmington Police Department.Wilmington Police Chief Duane Weyend said Saturday Lt. Michael Sanders was arrested Friday evening by law enforcement officials from the WPD after an investigation into an alleged incident that occurred Tuesday night.Weyand said his office received a call about a disturbance taking place downtown on the sidewalk of W. Locust Street Tuesday.He said the officers who were dispatched questioned Sanders and his ex-wife at the time.“Through our investigation and witness statements, we determined it was an active domestic situation that occurred,” Weyand said.

 

Two injured in S.R. 753 accident

A two-vehicle accident involving a semi truck on State Route 753 in front of the Walmart Distribution Center Friday evening injured two people. One was flown by medical helicopter from the scene and the other was taken to the Fayette County Memorial Hospital by ambulance. That portion of S.R. 753 was closed for over an hour as emergency crews worked to clear the area.

Engineer releases Capital Improvement Plan

Gas leak on Elm Street

The Washington Police and Fire Departments responded to a gas leak Thursday afternoon. According to police, the leak occurred on Elm Street near the Columbus Avenue intersection after a boring machine punctured the line. Vectren employees arrived shortly after emergency crews and began working to stop the leak.
