Fire destroys Bailey house on Tuesday
Ryan Carter Assistant Editor
The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency is investigating a Tuesday house fire at 5965 Worthington Road - the same abandoned residence where a murder-suicide rocked this community on Nov. 1, 2006.
The Concord-Green Fire Department received word of the fire at 9:32 p.m. Tuesday and arrived on the scene to find the home fully engulfed in flames. According to authorities, the fire was supposed to be a "controlled burn."
There were no injuries and the fire was not a threat to any surrounding structures, according to the Concord-Green Fire Department. The structure was destroyed and it took firefighters approximately 30 minutes to extinguish the fire.
On Nov. 1, 2006, Lori Bailey was kidnapped by her estranged husband, John Bailey, a week after he was served with a civil protection order from Lori that said he must immediately vacate the couple's home and that he could not interfere with Lori's right to occupy the residence.
John Bailey ignored the order and caused over $25,000 worth of damage to the home when deputies served him with the CPO.
John drove Lori to the Worthington Road residence, took her inside the barn there, and shot her in the head, killing her.
John then shot and killed himself.
On Tuesday, the barn was not damaged by the fire. More information will be released about the fire following the completion of the EPA investigation.
