Three people were flown by medical helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital Wednesday afternoon following a two-vehicle head-on collision on State Route 41 South.
A 2002 Dodge pickup truck driven by Dana Taylor of Washington C.H. was heading southbound on State Route 41 near Rowe-Ging Road a little after 3 p.m., according to authorities. Kelly Blankenship of Chillicothe was driving northbound in a 2002 Kia Sportage with her 16-year-old daughter in the passenger seat.
Authorities said Blankenship lost control of her vehicle and went left of center, striking Taylor's vehicle head-on in his lane of traffic. Witnesses at the scene said that Taylor was driving at about 35 miles per hour and Blankenship was driving between 40 and 45 miles per hour.
The Fayette County Sheriff's Office and Fayette County Life Squad arrived at the scene shortly after the accident and were able to get the three individuals out of their vehicles. Emergency personnel treated the three until a medical helicopter arrived.
Authorities did not know the extent of their injuries at press time. Both vehicles suffered heavy damage.
Also Wednesday, U.S. Route 62 was closed at the Fayette-Highland County line due to an accident involving a car and a semi-tractor trailer at around 3 p.m. The road was reopened over an hour later.
