Fayette County children show a keen understanding about the many issues that face our nation and new President-Elect Barack Obama.
Following Tuesday's general election, elementary students from Miami Trace and Washington C.H. school districts were asked what they would like to see Obama do when he gets into office.
Roma Patel, a fifth grade student from Washington's Rose Avenue Elementary, said she would like to see him lower gas prices.
Harley Maxie, a fourth grader from Washington's Cherry Hill Elementary, would also like to see gas prices lowered. "I think he should lower taxes too," she said.
"He should be nice to everybody," said Raven Haithcock, a second grader from Washington's Eastside Elementary. "Don't close down the factories and keep us safe."
Adam Wood, a second grade student from Washington's Belle Aire Elementary, had a broader answer to the question. "I would like to see him do the best job he can to make the world a better place," he said.
A group of fifth grade students from Miami Trace Elementary School also expressed what they would like to see from President-Elect Obama.
"I want to see him solve the war in Iraq," said Damion Diffendall.
Michaela Liff said he "should help sponsor programs to stop pollution and global warming."
Sara Rowland wants to see "more tax breaks to the lower class."
Hannah Casto said he should "help keep gas prices down."
"Find a way to help the economy get better," said Ben Hollar.
Evan Johnson would like to see healthcare available to every U.S. citizen.
OK, President-elect Obama, you've heard them speak.
