What’s happening at Carnegie Library?

Mark your calendars for the Carnegie Library Annual Book Sale with AAUW! The sale begins on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m., with the Preview Sale. Admission for the Preview Sale is $2. The regular sale takes place Thursday, Aug. 4 and Friday, Aug. 5 from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Bargain Day, where everything goes for $1 a bag, is Saturday, Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Be sure to bring your “Carnegie Bucks!”

Then, on Wednesday, July 27, at 11 a.m. children in grades three and up are invited to participate in “Reader’s Theatre!”

This fun program will help you learn to read with expression and enthusiasm! No memorizing scripts, only super silly fun! Must be willing to be adventuresome with “acting” and read fluently on a third grade level. Then, on Friday, July 29, children in grades five and up are invited to “Great Graphics!” Get in touch with classic literature through graphic novels. The visual imagery brings the stories to life, and gives the readers a deeper appreciation for good literature. Must be able to read fluently on a fifth grade level. On Friday, July 29, at 3 p.m., tweens and teens are invited to ‘Games Day” at the library! We have a wide assortment, but feel free to bring your favorite and teach us to play too. “Pokemon GO!” players welcome!

Bring the whole family on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 7:30 p.m. to the pond behind the Fayette County YMCA for “Summer Evening at the Prairie!” Celebrate the end of summer and learn more about the newly created prairie lands behind the YMCA. This event is sponsored by Fayette Soil & Water. Guaranteed to be unforgettable!

There is a still lot of fun to be had with the Summer Reading Program! Parents and children are invited to the library to sign up, and to register for fun events scheduled throughout the summer! Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., is Preschool Storytime for children 4 – 6 years old and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m., is Books & Blocks for children 1 – 3 years old. Siblings are welcome at either session.

In Jeffersonville: Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., come listen to stories, play instruments, create crafts, and socialize with other little friends at Toddler Time. Each week is a new theme! Tuesday, July 26 is “Round and Round We Go!” Then, on Wednesday, July 27 stop in for a “Christmas in July” craft program at 11 a.m. Get a head start on your Christmas by making hand crafted tags and gift items. All ages are welcome! Stick around for the “Knitters & Crocheters Drop-In” at 3 p.m. The meeting room will be reserved for this informal gathering. Participants are welcome to stop by for one-on-one help with a personal project, drop off caps made for newborns and those with cancer, or sit and knit a while. Then, on Thursday, July 28 at the United Methodist Church of Jeffersonville, is the Summer Reading Program Pizza Party! This event is for all ages, though you must have completed the SRP, and be present to be eligible for the prize drawing. The fun begins at 4:30 p.m. Enjoy fellowship and food with fellow readers!
