The dates of our Annual Book Sale have changed to coincide with our community’s Scarecrow Festival! Carnegie Public Library and AAUW will hold the Scarecrow Book Sale Thursday, Sept. 14 from 12 p.m. -6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 16, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Thursday is our Preview Sale with a $1 admission, all items are 50 cents. Friday, there is no charge for admission and all items are 50 cents. Saturday is our $1 a bag Bargain Day with extended hours! Proceeds from the sale fund local scholarships provided by AAUW, and contribute to the purchase of new materials for the library. The library will accept donations for this sale after Labor Day. You never know what you will find!
Be sure to join Carnegie Library for an out-of-this-world presentation by Cincinnati Observatory Astronomer Dean Regas on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 2 p.m., at Liberty Hall. All ages are invited to tour the stars with us! Dean is the co-host of Star Gazers, an iconic backyard astronomy program shown on over 100 PBS stations throughout the world. Then, on Monday, Aug. 21, America will experience a total solar eclipse! Coming up, we will have more information about how library patrons can get solar eclipse viewing glasses.
Help Carnegie Library “Stuff the Bus!” This annual United Way campaign is an important resource for children throughout Fayette County. With school starting soon, supplies are in high demand. Children and parents eagerly anticipate this time of year. For many families, however, the cost of supplies and other back-to school needs can be insurmountable. You may drop off new supplies including highlighters, pens, pencils, notebooks, folders, three-ring binders, colored pencils, crayons, and more until Aug. 8. The drop-off is located in the parking lot lobby of the library.
In Washington Court House: Preschool Storytime, Books & Babies, and Books & Blocks are on hiatus for the month of August. Join us again in September for more early literacy fun! The Carnegie Youth Garden Club meets at the library in Washington Court House on Fridays at 10:30 a.m. all summer long to tend the garden. Drop-in and get your hands dirty. There is something to see, learn, and do each week. The club is open to all students in grades 1-8. On Saturday, Aug. 12 at 11 a.m., all of the Carnegie Youth Garden Club members and garden helpers are invited to “Salsa Saturday!” Enjoy the fruits of your labor with treats from the library garden!
In Jeffersonville: Monday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m., library patrons of all ages are invited to “Snacking around the World” with Pat Brinkman from OSU Extension! Tuesdays at 11 a.m., come listen to stories, play instruments, create crafts, and socialize with other little friends at Toddler Time. Stop by and put your skills to good use!
